Thoughts, something we all have to deal with. No getting out of this one. Try not thinking. How long can you go? It is like holding your breath, not too long for most mortals.
Thoughts come to mind, and sometimes you may wonder where did that come from?
You may have been told things growing up, and now you have that in your mind.
You may have been told things from your friends, from your relatives, from your neighbors, your best friend, and people on the street.
How much is it true?
But yet these thoughts come to mind; it can be like a song loop, over and over. You don't want them.
Thoughts can come from the enemy, as it's written in Ephesians: fiery darts.
Thoughts can come from fallen nature. Paul said, “ I do what I don’t want to do.” The spirit strives against the flesh, and the flesh against the spirit.
What to do, what to do, what to do ?
You need to be the gatekeeper on what you let in and what you keep out. If you just let anything in, then that's going to be running around in your mind.
Just watching any movie or any song that’s running loose in your mind,
it can turn into a mad dog with no chain.
I'm sure you've experienced where you heard a song you can't get it to stop playing in your mind. Where is the off button?
Or how about when you saw something in a movie, you think, “ I wish I didn't see that!”
There are things that are not your fault. You slept over Grandma’s house as a child. What could go wrong there? You wake up early in the morning, go to Grandma’s bedroom to say good morning, and you see Grandma holding her teeth dripping with saliva. “ My eye, my eye, help me, all be good, just get this out of my mind!” That one may never leave, sorry.
The mind can be a battlefield.
First line of defense: Don’t let the garbage in. Fill your mind with words that give life.
Second line of defense: The stuff that comes to mind first, say no to that and depend upon the Holy Spirit. Next, you
counter it with truth, which you find in the Word of God.
Third line of defense: Knowing who you are, as far as God is concerned.
You can have certainty and assurance.
Certainty:
God has you, and Jesus has you.
Assurance:
Following after God and his ways,
Junk removal.
All the stuff that got past the gatekeeper, had no gatekeeper, gatekeeper sleeping, gatekeeper passed out, and we won’t talk about that.
Lies, half lies, and was the truth at the time, that
you've been told. You will counter that with scriptures on what God says you are in his eyes. That's all that matters.
You are clothed in Christ’s righteousness. In His eyes, you are righteous.
That is true for all Christians. Don't accept a lie.
Fill your mind with God's word by reading the word and by hearing the word.
Faith comes through hearing.
And when you get thoughts or the fiery darts of the enemy, whatever that may be, you're going to counter it with scripture.
If you don't think you have enough for your life, “God shall supply all my needs, according to his riches, grace, and glory. “
Somebody says, implying you are less than others, you say, “God chose me before the foundation of the Earth!”
If you get a thought that you are less than others, Counter, Christ died on the cross for me, obviously I am valuable.
Build a thought list.
As you study the word, find scriptures that counter negative thoughts that come to your mind.
Find scriptures that give you certainty and assurance.
In all this, walk by faith and depend on the Holy Spirit. The Spirit that raised Christ from the dead works in you!
I have a list of scripture that I have gathered over the years, you can use some of them to help you build your list.
